RAWALPINDI: On Saturday, Murree was designated a calamity-hit region after 19 tourists perished of exposure to the cold and thousands of automobiles were stranded in the hill resort.
The Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel have been called in to help clear the traffic gridlock and transport visitors out of Murree, which has been declared an emergency.
To keep the situation under control, the administration has prevented visitors from entering the Murree and Galiyat regions.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the Interior Minister, reported earlier today that 16 to 19 individuals died of exposure to the cold in automobiles stalled in Murree. According to him, the Pakistan Army has dispatched five platoons to assist in the rescue of the stranded tourists.

Hundreds of thousands of automobiles are travelling to Murree and other upper locations to enjoy the snowfall, according to Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry.
Around 23,000 automobiles have been successfully evacuated from Murree, according to the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner, with about 1,000 vehicles remaining trapped. He stated that the district administration is working around the clock to carefully remove the remaining automobiles.

The local government is unable to give amenities to such a huge number of people, according to the minister, who urged people to postpone their visits to these places for a few days.
